Primestock Show News 2005

First ever Hailsham Champion for Rumsden.

2005 has been the year in which we have finally won some of our favourite local shows that have eluded us over the years. Following the Supreme Interbreed Championship at the Heathfield Show in May 2005 for our Charolais Cow Rumsden Silver, we finished our 2005 season with a glorious victory at the 164th Hailsham Fatstock Show at Hailsham Market, in East Sussex. In 2003 we had reserve steer champion, and in 2004 we took steer and reserve supreme championships, and in 2005 we finally hit the jackpot. Our homebred steer, Jaberwocky, 14 months old and sired by Shatton Pedro, swept the board, lifting 6 trophies including that for the supreme champion. Jaberwocky is the first calf from Tatu, purchased from Hugh and Lynne Dunlop when she was female commercial champion at the Royal Highland Show. Jaberwocky went on to sell for £2.50/Kg, and weighing in at 525Kgs, he came to £1312.50. Also doing very well was Crown Jewels, our Netherton bred AA steer. He won his class, and also won the cups for the best beast sired by an AA or Galloway bull, and the best local purebred beast other than continental. He sold to judge Simon David of Minehead, Somerset for £1.35/Kg (£904.50). Honey, a homebred charolais cross heifer won a strong class and sold for £774, and Flaming Mo, a baby lim X steer was 2nd in his class to Jaberwocky, and will be retained for showing in 2006. We also jointly won the show points cup with Mr Derek Southouse of Hailsham.

Ashford Fatstock Show.

We only took 2 beasties to the Ashford Fatstock Show in Monday 5th December 2005 and were rewarded with very good prices. Rock, a homebred lim x pied steer was 1st in his class and was sold for £1.70/ kg (£892.50) and Veronica, a pedigree limousin heifer was second and sold for £1.48/Kg (£777).
